Welcome to Metroid Evolution
When Metroid Prime was released in 2002 it met with praise from both critics and gamers. Millions embraced this first 3-D Metroid game that Retro Studios had created. However, praise was not as universal as it may have seemed. Many long-time Metroid fans felt that some things weren't wholly right with this new entry into the classic Metroid series. That it was an excellent game was almost beyond question, but for some the elements within it didn't completely capture everything that made the Metroid series great. Now, with a sequel to Metroid Prime in development, this site is an attempt to let Retro Studios know just that. To remind them and everyone else that visits just what made the classic Metroid games such engaging and fun experiences. To analyze just what the first next-generation Metroid game did right and what it did wrong. To push for some much needed enhancements and improvements. In short, the site's one purpose is to push the next-generation Metroid series to evolve to its full potential.
Within these pages you will find analyses of past Metroid games, suggestions for gameplay refinements in future titles and some examples of what makes a Metroid game feel like a Metroid game.
This site is one fan's attempt to make his voice heard by those who need to hear it. As a fan, however, I hope other fans enjoy it and share my enthusiasm. Those with comments, ideas or suggestions should visit the Contact page and send them to me. Anything fans have to say can help improve the Metroid series. I hope to collect the best of the bunch and add them to the site at a later date. And because Metroid fans love to devour every bit of news on future Metroid games, this site will serve as a place for just that. Be sure to visit the Updates page for the latest info on both Metroid and the site.
It is possible that neither Nintendo nor Retro Studios will ever see this site or that if they do, they will ignore what it says and it will have no effect. If that turns out to be the case at the very least the site will serve to showcase how a little ingenuity and dedication could bring the 3-D Metroid series closer to its classic roots than most people believed possible.
